Meet The Egli Team

TIM EGLI

Owner & President

Tim Egli started Egli Landscapes in Wayland, Iowa, in 2004.  He became a Certified Nursery Professional with the Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association (INLA) in 2005.  Other business affiliations include ICPI, NFIB, WEDC, Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, and Washington Chamber of Commerce. Day to day he is in charge of managing the business, landscape design, sales, coordination of jobs, and some of the equipment repairs.  Tim developed his work ethic growing up on the family dairy farm right here in southeast Iowa.  He was transplanting trees from the timber to the backyard by the time he could drive a shovel in the ground.  Tim has worked in the green industry (landscaping) since 1996 along with working for a general passion for the artistic design process that goes into transforming properties.  While at Kirkwood Community College, Tim completed internships with Country Landscapes in North Liberty and Dwight Hughes Nursery in Cedar Rapids.  In December 2002 he graduated with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Landscape Nursery and Garden Center Management and went to work fulltime for Dwight Hughes Nursery.  After a year learning efficient techniques of landscaping, Tim decided to take the big leap into his own business.  Tim enjoys spending time with his wife, Kim, and children Ty, Tanner, and Taelyn.  Having a family has taught him that the decisions we make truly impact those around us.  When he does get a chance to relax, he likes to go fishing, watch college football, and just hang out and play with his kids.  He is also an active member of the Wayland Lions Club, and on the local church and bank boards.

GRANDMA SUNNY

Nursery Care/Advisor

She earned her nickname as soon as Ty (Tim’s oldest son) was old enough to talk. But all of the team members have fittingly adopted that name for her as she looks over each of them and teaches them everything she can about the plants. Sunny enjoys spending as much time as possible with all of her children and grandchildren. When Tim started the business, she immediately stepped up to help out in any way she could. Tim has incorporated her knowledge of plant material into watering and caring for the nursery stock. Her diligence and nurturing ensure that the plants leave the nursery looking their best. She also spends time doing research to expand and improve our plant palette.

LAURA SCHMITZ

Nursery/Customer Care Manager

We would like to welcome Laura Schmitz to the Egli Landscapes Team this spring. Laura is bringing with her over 25 years’ experience in the retail and wholesale nursery business. A love of plants is what brought Laura to Iowa State University where she completed her B.S. in Horticulture. Helping teach others about plants and how to grow them has been a big part of her career. She is an active gardener and loves being outside caring for plants.

Family time and farming also play a role in Laura’s life. Laura and her husband raise sheep for local 4-Her’s to show. This is a whole family project, and their adult children are also still involved in the operation.

Plants have been a passion her whole life and that passion still grows every day. There is always something new to learn or ways to expand knowledge about growth and care of plants.

JUSTIN DEAN

Designer/Sales

Justin has 20 plus years of experience in the landscaping industry. Justin started his career in Iowa City, IA working alongside and apprenticing under accredited, industry professionals at Iowa City Landscaping for 6 years. He then moved back to his hometown to leave his mark in Landscape design and installation at multiple locations, commercial and residential. Justin’s specialty is working with a wide variety of small and large stones to create an art piece encompassed by mostly native and sustainable plants that would grace the cover of any leading landscape magazine. Along with all his experience in the field creating these art pieces he now takes his hobby of 3D Landscape designs and renderings to another level by being able to spend more time behind the computer to create his visions. His passion for his products, be it a Landscape design or the simple task of helping a customer better understand nature and its balance within the Landscape is something he appreciates daily. Justin was taught and trained to do all tasks of the job right the first time and to communicate all aspects of those tasks to better educate the customers of the professional products he and his teams produce. Justin looks forward to all encounters with past and future clients. The exchange of gratitude towards each client’s project is not ignored and is truly valued forever.
